Who do I think I am?
I've often asked that question, and I'm still asking. Here's some boring personal details to start out with.
I was born in Chicago, Illinois. My mom didn't get a chance to eat dinner (which she brings up surprisingly often), and I stuck my tongue out at her right after I was born. Well, my take is that she should have considered herself warned....
I grew up in Evanston, Illinois, which is a northern suburb of Chicago and the home of Northwestern University. I went to the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign after first dropping out of high school and doing a lot of floundering. I started out in human factors psychology, but then fell in love with statistics, so I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology with a Quantitative field of concentration.
I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in October, 1985, and have been here ever since then.
I'm a technical writer who is currently unemployed. I've been a technical writer for 18 years, to my total shock. I'm planning to get a Master's Degree in Library Science, but right now, I'm just looking for a way to support myself.
I got hooked on the Internet by viewing Web cam sites. I had my own 24/7 Web cam for a while. It was an interesting experience, but not one that I want to repeat. I had a journal on my Web cam site, but then I stumbled over LiveJournal, and the rest, as they say, is history.
I'd like to get back to my personal writing, but haven't had much time (excuses, excuses). Don't be surprised if poetry or personal essays appear in this journal. (Yes, you've been warned.)
Personal life? I have none right now. Any questions?
Seriously, I sometimes wonder if I'm one of those people who are better off single. (Know thyself, said the oracle.) Certainly I'd need someone who is very patient--and independent--and those traits tend not to go together.
But I do need to get out more.
